Phonics

At school you would be learning or practising a new sound every day.  Look at the sound mats below and see how many sounds your child knows.  Most children will be able to say all of the phase 2 sounds, if they can't then this needs to be practised daily.

Today's activity is a roll and read.  Roll a dice (or pick a line to read), using your sounds segment the word and then blend it together.  You may find you can read the word without sounding it out.

example:   sh-i-p ship

Read all of the words in that line and then try another line.  Can you read them all?

Choose the sound you are going to work on depending on how far you got through the sound mats above.

Listen to the video clip to hear your sound and help Geraldine Giraffe. Now try to play your roll and read. If you found your roll and read easy why not try the next roll and read.
