Week 1: Earthquake Reading Comprehensions
Below is a reading comprehension about Earthquakes. The documents increase in difficulty (3 being the hardest). Have a go at answering the questions once you have finished reading the text. Make sure you try to write your answers in full sentences.
I will post the answers on Friday 27th March.
Week 1: The Dreadful Menace
Recently, we have been reading a poem called 'The Dreadful Menace' which uses a variety of figurative language (similes, metaphors, personification etc.) to describe a storm. We want you to have a go at writing your own poems in the style of the Dreadful Menace. This could be about anything! We are excited to see what you have come up with.
The Dreadful Menace
I am the dreadful menace,
The one whose will is done,
The haunting chill upon your neck,
I am the conundrum.
I will summon armies
Of wind, and rain, and snow
I made the black cloud overhead.
The ice, like glass, below.
Not you or any other
Can fathom what is nigh.
I will tell you when to jump.
And I’ll dictate how high.
The ones that came before you
Stood strong and tall and brave:
But I stole their dreams away,
Those dreams could not be saved.
But now you stand before me
Devoid of all dismay
Could it be, just maybe,
I’ll let you have your day?
Or try using the documents below for other writing ideas. There is a document per day so let your creativity go wild!
