If it is a nice day, you could do this outside – be careful if you are inside and try not to make a mess!

 

1 chilli – Explore capacity by counting how many pours it takes to fill up a container using something smaller.  Can you make your container full and empty?  Introduce half full by drawing a line around the counter to show the children where it is.

 

2 chillies – explore capacity by counting how many pours it takes to fill up different containers.  Can the children make a guess about how many pour it will take prior to trying it?  Can you make your container full, empty, half full.  Introduce the world nearly, explaining that it means almost there.  Try to fill a cup nearly to the top, or nearly empty.

 

3 chillies - explore capacity by counting how many pours it takes to fill up different containers.  Make a guess before filling the container.  Can you explore full, empty, half full and nearly empty/full.  If the cup is tall, will it always hold more water?
