Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000

Today we are going to look at multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. You do not need to use long multiplication or division for this - it is a waste of time and causes so many misconceptions!

If you are someone who struggles with this, then you need to continue practising drawing the place value grid and then move your digits either to the left or the right, depending if you are multiplying or dividing.

There is a place value grid below that you can draw onto a sheet of paper and then use to help you answer the questions which follow.

There are some practise questions for you to do and then when you feel confident you can complete the assessment and greater depth tasks.

Remember to send your work to your class teacher so they can help you with anything you are stuck on and they will also be able to mark it.
