Autumn 1  - Materials

During Autumn 1 we are working scientifically by:

  • Identifying a range of materials
  • Comparing materials and the suitability
  • Investigating famous scientists (e.g. John Dunlop)
  • Exploring how different materials can be changed

 

Autumn 2 - Materials

During Autumn 2 we are working scientifically by: 

  • Identifying and comparing the suitability of a variety of everyday materials
  • Asking simple questions and recognising that they can be answered in different ways
  • Performing simple tests
  • Exploring properties of different materials 

Spring 1 - Animals including humans

During Spring 1 we are working scientifically by:

  • Recognising how living things grow and reproduce
  • Describing the basic conditions required for animals including humans to survive
  • Describing the importance of exercise, healthy eating and hygiene for humans 

Spring 2 - Plants

During Spring 2 we are working scientifically by:

  • Describing what plants need to grow and stay healthy
  • Naming different features of a plant
  • Learning to observe seeds and draw them
  • Observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants

Summer 1  - Living things and their habitats

In Summer 1 we are working scientifically by:

  • Comparing differences between living things, non living things and things that have been alive
  • Describing how different habitats provide for the needs of animals and plants
  • Identifying and naming a variety of plants and animals
  • Describing how animals get their food 

Summer 2 - Living things and their habitats

During Summer 2 we are working scientifically by: 

  • Comparing differences between living and non-living things
