Autumn 1 - Inheritance and Evolution
During Autumn 1 we are working scientifically by:
- Recognising that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago
- Recognising that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents
- Identifying how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution
Autumn 2 - Inheritance and Evolution
During Autumn 2 we are working scientifically by:
- Investigating the importance of fossils as scientific evidence
- Examining the evidence of demonstrating how plants have evolved
Spring 1 - Living Things and their Habitats
During Spring 1 we are working scientifically by:
- Understanding the importance of classification
- Explaining reasons for classifying plants and animals using different characteristics
- Researching unfamiliar animals and plants from a broad range of other habitats
- Planning a line of enquiry based on microorganisms
Spring 2 - Animals including humans
In Spring 2 we are working scientifically by:
- Describing the circulatory system in detail - naming each part
- Describing the systems that transport nutrients and water
- Investigating the impact of exercise and diet on the way the body functions
- Identifying the impact of drugs on the way the body functions
Summer 1 - Light
In Summer 1 we are working scientifically by:
- Identifying that light travels in straight lines
- Explaining the formation of shadows
- Explaining how light can be broken into different colours
Summer 2 - Electricity
During Summer 2 we are working scientifically by:
- Using recognised circuit symbols
- Associating brightness of lamp or loudness of buzzer with the number and voltage of cells
- Giving reasons for variations in how components function and explore different reasons for this
