Welcome to our library

Everyone enjoys visiting our library. Often children sit attentively on the coloured cushions listening to a story! Our Librarian is Mrs Fleming and she is always at hand to recommend books. She works in the library every Monday between 9am and 1pm. Children and parents can also visit the library after school.

We use the Junior Librarian system to catalogue our books and children in each class have been trained to scan their books in & out themselves. An adult always accompanies the younger children in KS1.

The library is always being updating with books and some of our latest additions are 'The Exploits of Winnie the Witch', 'DC Comics - Batman' and some great 'Star Wars' stories which have proved very popular. We also have a range of DVD's children can loan.

KS1 prepare to be scared by 'The Deep Dark Wood' story and enthralled by the ever popular 'The Gruffalo's Child'!

Stronger readers should enjoy 'The Edge Chronicles' - The Percy Jackson series and favourites such as 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' with Greg Heffley getting 'Cabin Fever' and 'Harry Potter'.

Discovery Club

Here at Thornhill Primary School our Librarian, Mrs Fleming, runs a Discovery Club. Discoverers meet, usually twice a term, before school on a Friday.  Here they read and discuss new children’s books. Nicky Gale, Manager of Waterstones at West Quay, brings us books and usually runs the meetings.

As well as extending their reading, the meetings with Nicky are fun and can include visits from authors, plus quizzes and visits to Waterstones.
